Yule Treats-Doggy Biscuits

biscuits-002This is adapted from Yule by Dorothy Morrison, my mom made these two years ago for the dogs and they loved them, I changed the recipe slightly as I didn’t have all the ingredients.

Here is the recipe directly from the book, below will be my adaptation:

p109 “Yule: A celebration of Light and Warmth” Dorothy Morrison

“3 cups whole wheat flour

1/2 cup powdered milk

1 egg

1 cube chicken, liver or beef bouillon

3/4 cup water

1/3 cup margarine

1/4 teaspoon salt

Place water, bouillon, and margarine in a large bowl;microwave on high for one minute.Stir in all the other ingredients, and add the flour last. Dough will be stiff. Roll out to 1/2 inch thick on a lightly floured surface. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 325* F for 35-40 minutes (biscuits should be hard). Turn off heat and leave in the oven for one hour.”

Here is my Adaptation!

1 egg

1 cube vegetable stock

1/4 cup water

2/4 cup milk

1/3 cup margarine

2 tablespoons wet dog food (from a can).

3 cups whole wheat flour.

Put margarine, vegetable stock, water and milk in pot and melt, or put in microwave.

Once melted add in the dog food and egg and mix. Add in the flour last. Roll out onto cookie sheet about 1/2 inch thick and cut out shapes with cookie cutter. I used baking paper instead of a greased baking tray.

Bake for about 55 minutes.

Leave in oven for an hour. Store in an airtight container.

My two old dogs Pixie and Jesse, enjoy them thoroughly!

These would make excellent Yule treats for your dogs, or if you are not a dog owner and have a friend who is, you can put them in a nice jar with ribbons as a gift!

  1. Thank you sooooo much for posting this, I make them every year for the doggies I know but have mislaid my copy of Yule ARRRGH!, So thank you from me and the pooches. I leave out the salt to make them healthier the dogs don’t seem to mind as they still get gobbled up 🙂
