The Magpie King

“One for Sorrow
Two for Joy
The Magpie King has come
And in the hollows of his heart
The gleaming of the sun.
He stole the light which touched the moon
And kept it wrapped in vine
And when they thought that hope was lost
He let the light untwine.

One for Sorrow
Two for Joy
The Magpie King is here
Upon his head, the Devil’s crown
Formed of mournful tears
He sings the songs of twilight deep
The tales of thorn and fire
And when the world forgot the wild
He stole their hearts desire”
